Robot Dreams" and "Lulina and the Moon" Lead 2024 Quirino Award Nominations

The Iberoamerican Animation Quirino Awards, which recognizes outstanding animation from Spain, Portugal and Latin America, has announced the nominees for its seventh edition. [It will be held on May 11 at the Real Theater in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, Tenerife, Canary Islands.

Here are some of this year's lineup:

*The 2024 Quirino Awards will have a new category for Best Animated Music Video.

*For the first time since its inception in 2018, the Quirino Awards achieved gender parity in its two main categories: feature film and animated series.

*All of this year's animated series nominees are hand-drawn, 2D films.

*Spain received the most nominations by country, with 16. Brazil also received an impressive 7 nominations.

*Robot Dreams, directed by Pablo Berger, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature at last weekend's Academy Awards, is the most nominated feature film in Quirinos, with three nominations in the categories of Feature, Visual Development and Sound Design.

*Marcus Vinicius Vasconcelos and Alois Di Leo's "Lulina and the Moon" was nominated in three categories: short film, animation design, and sound design, making it the most nominated short film.

This year's Quirino Award winners include Portuguese director José Miguel Ribeiro ("Nayola"), Colombian director Marcela Rincon ("Lila's Book"), and British director Wesley Lewis, in addition to Latvian public television station acquisition head The selection will be made by a jury that includes Zane Valenisse, head of acquisitions for Latvian public television, and Emmanuel Petri, co-founder and producer of Dandeloo.
