Re-release of “Coraline” continues to record phenomenal box office receipts.

Fathom Events' 15th anniversary re-release of Henry Selick and Laika's stop-motion feature “Coraline” continued its impressive second weekend at the box office.

The film's estimated second weekend gross of $5 million puts it in seventh place at the box office, with a domestic total of $24.6 million. Considering the 1,422 theaters in which the film was screened, the average box office per theater was $3,520, the fourth highest among the top ten films.

Meanwhile, Trafalgar Releasing is handling international re-releases, and when international box office revenues are added, “Coraline” has grossed $37.7 million during its current run, with many markets still to come, including France.

In the United Kingdom, “Coraline” has surpassed “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” on the list of top re-releases of all time, behind only last year's “Titanic” re-release. Coraline also surpassed the box office grosses of its original release in Mexico, closing in on the 1.6 million total admissions for 2009.

New American animated releases also continue to do very well at the box office. Universal/Illumination's Despicable Me 4 (directed by Chris Renaud and co-directed by Patrick Delage) added another $4.4 million domestically, bringing its total gross to $348.2 million, making it the third highest grossing film released in the U.S. this year. It also added $18.5 million overseas, bringing its total overseas box office to $537.1 million and its worldwide box office to $885.3 million. On a global scale, it was the third highest grossing film of the year.

Disney-Pixar's “Inside Out 2,” directed by Kelsey Mann, earned an additional $11.2 million worldwide ($2.1 million of which came in its 11th weekend in the US) and now stands at $1.64 billion worldwide. By next week, the film should surpass the $1.65 billion total of the 2019 CG remake of The Lion King and become the highest-grossing animated feature film of all time.
